LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior outfielder Dane Grandizio (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) was selected as the Patriot League's Baseball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. The award is the first career weekly honor for Grandizio and marks the first time a member of the Orange and Blue has been named the league's Player of the Week since the final week of the 2006 regular season.
Grandizio hit .400 over four games last weekend, going 6-for-15 with eight runs scored and three RBI, helping the Bison to a 3-0-1 record against Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth.
In Friday's 7-7 tie at Richmond, Grandizio went 2-for-5, belting his first collegiate home run in the contest. He followed up with a second home run in Bucknell's 12-3 rout of VCU and scored twice and then went on to hit 2-for-4 with three runs scored in the second game against the Rams, which was a 10-7 victory for the Orange and Blue.
Grandizio wrapped up the weekend by hitting safely in his fourth straight contest as he registered a double and scored two valuable runs in the 12-11 win over Richmond.
Bucknell will be back in action this Sunday, Mar. 9, when the squad will begin its Spring Break trip to Bradenton, Fla., with a game against IPFW at 10:30 a.m.
