LEWISBURG, Pa. - Eight Bucknell men's water polo players were honored by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) with positions on the CWPA All-Academic Team, released on Monday. As a team, the Bison recorded a 3.11 grade-point average during the fall semester to rank fourth in the CWPA.
Student-athletes were recognized in three levels: 3.2 to 3.4 GPA (Excellent), 3.41 to 3.7 GPA (Superior) and 3.71 to 4.0 (Outstanding). Bucknell had four players recognized in the Superior category and four more on the Excellent list.
Gabriel Heiber (Aventura, Fla./Miami Beach), Howie Kalter (Durham, N.H./Phillips Academy Andover), Alex Lampley (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Lee Anderson (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) each received recognition in the Superior category for GPAs between 3.41 and 3.7.
Andrew Nelson (Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes), Peter O'Keefe (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter), Jason Rechel (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and Josh Sunday (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) were honored in the Excellent category for GPAs ranging from 3.2 to 3.4.
Bucknell's eight student-athletes were two more than the six that were recognized following the 2006 campaign.
In the pool in 2007, the Bison posted a 20-13 record, their first 20-win campaign since 2001, and just the eighth in program history. Bucknell finished the year ranked 19th nationally and took fifth at the Eastern Championship.
