PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Career nights from sophomores Paige Kasschau (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) and Alison Heffernan (Malvern, Pa./Agnes Irwin School) contributed to a 16-goal scoring output, and a season-high 16 saves from rookie goalie Alyssa DeLorenz (Garland, Texas/Plano East) helped the Bucknell women's lacrosse team topple La Salle 16-10 on Tuesday evening.
Bucknell snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 3-3 on the season. The Bison, who were playing the second of four straight road games, jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead, then blew it open by scoring the first six goals of the second half.
Kasschau scored a career high four goals and also added an assist for a career-high-tying five points. Heffernan added three goals and two assists for a personal-best five points.
They were hardly the only multi-point scorers for the Bison. Sarah Collins (Goldens Bridge, N.Y./John Jay) scored three goals, Carol Donohue (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) got back on track with two goals and two assists, Bonnie Buechel (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) hit the net twice and Chelsea Peters (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) chipped in a goal and an assist.
Emily Bonczek scored four goals for La Salle, giving her 34 already in seven games this season.
Buechel needed only 1:14 to get the Bison on the board for the first time, and after Bonczek tied it two minutes later, Heffernan scored a goal and assisted on Collins' tally to start a 5-0 run. Kasschau's first goal of the night gave Bucknell a 6-1 lead, and the Bison went to the locker room with an 8-4 cushion.
All doubts were removed in the first half of the second period when Bucknell reeled off six goals in a row -- two by Heffernan, two by Kasschau and one each from Donohue and Peters.
Up 14-4, Bucknell let the Explorers back in it by yielding five goals in an eight-minute span, with Erika Matthews' eight-meter goal making it 14-9 with 7:31 to play. But Kasschau halted the run with her fourth of the night, off an assist from Donohue.
DeLorenz was steller in the crease for the Bison, making nine saves in the first half and seven in the second.
Bucknell won 13 of the 25 draws, led by five from Buechel. Both teams attempted 33 shots.
Bucknell's busy week continues this weekend with road games at Ohio State on Friday and Robert Morris on Sunday.
