ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Bucknell wrestling squad wrapped up its 2007-08 season on Friday as sophomores Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway Area) and David Marble (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville Central) dropped hard-fought consolation matches and were eliminated on day two of the NCAA Championships at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo.
Marble suffered an 8-4 setback to Cory Fish of Boise State in the 133-pound consolation bracket. He managed to escape twice in the opening period, but surrendered three takedowns. In the second, Marble added two more points with a reversal, but fell short of a comeback, however. Marble, who made his second trip to the NCAA Championships in as many seasons, finishes his sophomore campaign with a record of 27-9.
Rendos was edged by No. 12-seed Jarrod King of Edinboro in his consolation bout at 165 by a 4-2 margin. After a scoreless opening period, Rendos chose down in the second and escaped to take a 1-0 lead, which would not last as King began the third with an escape and collected a takedown before tacking on the fourth point with riding time. Rendos, who is a two-time NCAA qualifier for the Bison, as well, wraps up his second season with the Orange and Blue with a 28-11 record.
As a team in 2007-08, Bucknell went 9-11-1 in duals (4-4 EIWA) and placed fourth at the EIWA Championships with three NCAA qualifiers.
