Bucknell Wrestlers Begin Quest for All-America Status on Thursday at NCAA Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Three members of the Bucknell wrestling team will begin their quests for All-America status this Thursday, Mar. 20, as sophomores David Marble (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville Area), Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway Area) and Shane Riccio (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) will represent the Bison at the 2008 NCAA Championships in St. Louis Mo. The three-day tournament begins with session one at 11 a.m., on Thursday morning in the Scottrade Center.

133-Pound Qualifier David Marble
- Will face No. 2-seed James Kennedy (27-4) of Illinois in the first round.
- Reached the NCAA Championships for a second straight season by placing second at the EIWA Tournament. Qualified as a wild card selection as a freshman in 2007 and went 1-2.
- InterMat/NWCA/NWMA Division I Individual Ranking (Pre-NCAA Tournament, 3/12): 18th.
- 2007-08 Highlights: notched wins over Stephen Sabreen of Franklin & Marshall, Bryan Ortenzio of Penn and Seth Ciasulli of Lehigh in the EIWA Championships before falling by one point, a 5-4 decision, to Joe Baker of Navy in the championship bout ... win over Ciasulli was his 50th of his career ... is currently 26-7 overall ... tied for a team-best record of 16-5 in duals with seven bonus point victories ... posted a 6-2 record in EIWA duals ... has totaled three pins, three technical falls and five major decisions on the year ... opened the season with a runner-up showing at the Binghamton Open and followed up by winning his weight at the Navy Classic ... upset then-ranked No. 9 Tyler McCormick in a dual meet at Missouri ... was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week following that performance ... also earned the award for his runner-up showing at the EIWA Championships.
165-Pound Qualifier Andy Rendos
- Will take on No. 6-seed Jonathan Reader (26-7) of Iowa State in the first round.
- Secured his second consecutive automatic NCAA berth with a fourth-place showing at the EIWA Championships after taking third as a freshman in 2007. Went 1-2 at the NCAA Tournament in 2007.
- 2007-08 Highlights: has compiled a record of 27-9 ... all nine losses have come against opponents who are currently ranked in the top-20 nationally ... appeared in the InterMat/NWMA/NWCA Individual Rankings, peaking at No. 15 ... went 16-5 in duals, tying Marble for the team's best record ... posted a 7-1 mark in EIWA dual meets ... racked up a squad-best 11 duals wins for bonus points ... in total, has compiled four pins, three technical falls and 11 major decisions ... began the season with a fourth-place finish at the Binghamton Open and won his weight at the Navy Classic ... was selected as the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week following that performance ... logged his 50th career win against Joe Schick in dual meet versus East Stroudsburg.
174-Pound Qualifier Shane Riccio
- Will wrestle Chance Litton (11-4) of West Virginia in the first round.
- Earned his first NCAA berth as a wild card after finishing fifth at the EIWA Championships.
- 2007-08 Highlights: is currently 25-9 overall with four of his nine losses coming in the first two weekends of the season at the Binghamton Open and at the Navy Classic where he finished fourth ... upset No. 3-seed Justin Herbert of Franklin & Marshall, 8-4 to advance to the semifinals of the EIWA Tournament ... dropped his next two bouts by a combined total of just four points (2-0 versus No. 2-seed Matt Stolpinski of Navy and 3-1 versus No. 4 Alex Caruso of Lehigh) before posting another win over Herbert, 7-2, to take fifth ... also posted a place-winning performance at the Cleveland State Open, taking third ... went 15-2 in duals, with his only two losses coming against then-ranked No. 4 Steve Luke of Michigan and No. 10 Steve Anceravage of Cornell ... setback against Anceravage snapped a 14-match dual meet winning streak ... was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week after picking up his 14th victory in that stretch, clinching the squad's dual meet win over American by pinning Jonathon Powell in 1:47 ... held opponents scoreless in nine of his victories and went 11 straight bouts without surrendering a takedown.
Bucknell's NCAA History
- Including this season, Bucknell has produced 54 NCAA qualifiers in program history, including four All-Americans. Tom Marchetti placed fourth at 167 pounds in 1989, Bryan Burns took eighth at 190 pounds in 1991 and Bobby Ferraro was an All-American at 177 pounds in back-to-back seasons, placing eighth in 1994 and seventh in 1995.
- The Bison have had one four-time qualifier, five three-time qualifiers and seven two-time qualifiers since 1976.
