Donohue Has 8-Point Day to Lead Bison Women's Lax to 20-11 Win at Lafayette

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Sophomore Carol Donohue (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) registered four goals and four assists en route to a career-high eight-point afternoon, leading the Bucknell women's lacrosse team to a 20-11 Patriot League victory at Lafayette on Saturday.
Now 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the league, the Bison had 11 different goal-scorers in their 20-goal outburst. Thirteen of those tallies came on 16 shots after halftime, including eight in succession from eight different scorers to bust open a one-goal game. Paige Kasschau (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) added three goals and an assist, while freshman Julia Braun (Tomkins Cove, N.Y./North Rockland) tallied three goals and a game-high six draw controls.
Freshman Michelle Milot (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) registered her first two collegiate goals, and Sarah Collins (Goldens Bridge, N.Y./John Jay) also scored twice for Bucknell, which at one point was 0-26 all-time against Lafayette but has now won four of the last five in the series.
Maddy Booth and Emily Archibald scored three goals each for the Leopards (0-6, 0-2).
It was a fairly even first half, as the game was tied at 1, 3 and 5 before Kasschau and Braun tallied for Bucknell in the final 6:33 to give the Bison a 7-5 lead at the half. Lafayette outshot the Bison 13-12 in the half and both teams nabbed nine draw controls. Donohue opened the scoring 2:05 into the game, and Bucknell never trailed.
Bucknell took its first three-goal lead of the day just 1:24 into the second half when freshman Laura Van Schaack (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) scored an unassisted goal to make it 8-5. But Lafayette tied it on three straight free-position goals in a span of 2:45. Archibald scored two of them, the latter tying the game at 8-all with 24:56 to play.
Once again, the Bison never let Lafayette grab the lead. Kasschau answered at 23:43, followed by Donohue tally 1:58 later. Booth scored just 11 seconds later off the draw for Lafayette to make it 10-9, but Bucknell dominated the last 20 minutes of play.
Defender Lauren Deitrich (Collegeville, Pa./Hill School) scored her first goal of the season off a feed from Donohue, igniting Bucknell's 8-0 run. Milot followed with an 8-meter score, and 37 seconds later Donohue fed Braun to make it 13-9. Donohue, Bonnie Buechel (South Orange, N.J./Columbia), Kasschau, Ashley Flood (Westfield, N.J./Lawrenceville) and Collins followed over the next eight minutes, and the Bison had a commanding 17-9 lead.
Booth and Archibald struck 12 seconds apart to break the run, but Collins and Alison Heffernan (Malvern, Pa./Agnes Irwin School) finished the scoring, getting the Bison to the 20-goal mark for the first time this season.
It was a tough day for the goalies, as Bucknell's Alyssa DeLorenz (Garland, Texas/Plano East) made four saves and Lafayette's Emily Bjork made just two stops. Neither goalie made a save in the second half.
Bucknell outshot Lafayette 28-24, including 16-11 in the second half.
Donohue's eight points were tied for the sixth-most in a game in Bucknell history and the most since Collins had 10 against American in 2006. Seven others had scored eight points in a game, with the last being Heidi Hammes against Monmouth in 1997.
Bucknell is back in action on Thursday, March 20 against Duquesne at 6 p.m. at Graham Field.
