COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) scored five goals and dished out a career-high three assists to lead the No. 19 Bucknell women's water polo team to a 17-7 win over Wagner in the Bison's second game of the day at the Maryland Invitational Saturday. Gins broke the Bucknell career records for both goals and points thanks to her career high-tying eight points.
Gins eclipsed Meg Blitzer's program records for both goals and points. She entered Saturday seven goals and nine points behind Blitzer, but totaled eight goals and 14 points in two games as she tallied three goals and three assists earlier in the day in a 10-goal win over Villanova. She now has 199 goals and 287 points in her four-year career. Her five goals against the Seahawks were a season high, while her eight points were her most since 2006.
Bucknell improved to 9-2 with the win, its best start since going 10-2 through the first 12 games of the 2006 campaign.
Gins was not the only Bison to play well on the offensive end as Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) registered four goals and three assists. Kandis Canonica (Burlingame, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) recorded one goal and five assists to round out the list of three Bucknell players who registered at least six points.
Shana Palencia (Glendale, Calif./Hoover), Valentina Rozas (Pico Rivera, Calif./El Rancho) and Haley Prickett (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona del Mar) each found the back of the net twice, giving the Bison five multiple-goal scorers. In addition to her two goals, Rozas picked up a team-high three steals and three ejections drawn.
In goal, Alison Carter (Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor) piled up a career high-tying 11 saves. She moved her season total to 64 and her career figure moved past 100.
The Bison will wrap up play at the Maryland Invitational Sunday morning against Iona at 8 a.m. Each of the three teams Bucknell plays this weekend are members of the MAAC.
