LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the third consecutive week the No. 20 Bucknell men's water polo team swept CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors as junior goalie Nick Donahue (Brooklyn, N.Y./Lawrenceville) and freshman Spencer Richley (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) were cited for their play in Sunday's contest against No. 12 St. Francis (N.Y.).
Donahue earned his second Player of the Week citation in three weeks after stopping a career-high 16 shots in the 10-4 loss to the Terriers. It was the most saves for a Bison goalie since 2005 and helped Donahue increase his season total to 167. Additionally, he went over the 200-save plateau for his career and now has 214.
In his first year as a regular starter, Donahue has blossomed of late. He is averaging nearly 10 saves per game over his last eight outings and has four double-figure save performances over that span after never before recording 10 saves in a game.
Richley, who is the second Bison freshman to earn Rookie of the Week plaudits this year following two-time honoree Beau Caillouette, tallied a career-high two assists against St. Francis (N.Y.). He now has four goals and seven assists this season while coming off the bench 22 times.
Bucknell has now claimed both CWPA awards each of the last three weeks. Donahue and Richie Hyden were the Player of the Week the previous two weeks, while Caillouette was honored the last two weeks as well.
Bucknell wrapped up its regular season with a 14-13 record and is now preparing for this weekend's Southern Championships. The third-seeded Bison will open play at Southerns against Gannon Saturday at 9 a.m. With a win in that contest Bucknell will earn an automatic berth to the Eastern Championship for the ninth consecutive season.
