LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell men's basketball freshman guard Bryan Cohen (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Abington Friends) was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday after registering his first two career double-digit scoring outputs. Cohen, who has started each of Bucknell's first three games, scored 10 points in an overtime loss to Boston University, then tallied 22 in another OT setback at Saint Francis (Pa.) on Saturday.
In the Saint Francis game, Cohen helped rally the Bison from a 10-point second-half deficit by scoring nine points in the final 6:30 of regulation. He went 1-for-2 from the free-throw line with 19 seconds remaining to force overtime.
Cohen went 7-for-15 from the field (4-for-7 from 3-point range) en route to the highest-scoring game by a Bison freshman since Donald Brown scored 22 against Lehigh on Jan. 14, 2004. The last Bucknell rookie to score 20 in a game was Chris McNaughton against Lafayette on Feb. 20, 2004.
Cohen now leads the team in scoring at 13.7 points per game. He is shooting 42.9 percent from the floor (15-35) and 46.7 percent (7-15) from 3-point distance, and he is also averaging 4.0 rebounds per game and playing strong defense. Cohen ranks eighth in the Patriot League in scoring and in the top 10 in both 3-pointers made and 3-point field-goal percentage.
Bucknell goes in search of its first victory of the 2008-09 season on Tuesday night against Old Dominion. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at Sojka Pavilion.
