PRINCETON, N.J. -
The Bucknell men's and women's cross country teams participated in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 15, in Princeton, N.J. The Bison women finished eighth out of 26 teams, while the Bison men placed 12th out of 24 squads. Princeton and West Virginia shared the women's title, while Georgetown won the men's race.
Bucknell's Alexa Griffiths (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) and Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) each turned in times of 23 minutes, 27 seconds, placing 48th and 49th overall, respectively, in the field of 191 runners. Villanova's Frances Koons was the meet's individual winner with a time of 21:11, four seconds ahead of the Tigers' Liz Costello and Penn State's Bridget Franek.
Bison senior Nicole Falcaro (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) finished 54th (23:38), while freshman Caitlin Cavanaugh (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) placed 60th (23:49) and senior co-captain Gillian Nordquist (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) crossed the finish line in 62nd (23:50). Alaina Chodoff (23:54) (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) and Sarah Moniz (24:36) (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional) finished 68th and 96th, respectively, rounding out the field for the Bison.
"Our women ran in a very tight pack, and we got a great final result," Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner said. "We came back and almost beat a very good Navy team that defeated us at the league championship two weeks ago.
The Orange and Blue's senior co-captain Clinton Orloski (Butler, Pa./Slippery Rock), finished first for the Bison and 46th overall with a time of 33:57. Andrew Bumbalough from Georgetown finished the men's 10K in 31:36 to lead the field. Villanova's Hugo Beamish came in second (31:37), while the Hoyas' Levi Miller placed third (31:38). Bucknell freshman Stephen Dorsey (North Wales, Pa./La Salle High School) placed 60th (34:23) and sophomore Baron Willeford (New Orleans, La./Columbia Prep (N.Y.)) finished 65th (34:32).
Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Governor Dummer Academy) finished 81st (34:54) for the Orange and Blue, while senior Donald Sanner (Meyersdale, Pa./Meyersdale) placed 88th (35:07). Conor McNamara (35:20) (Baldwin, N.Y./Chaminade) and Joshua Clark (35:33) (Vincentown, N.J./Seneca) were the final two runners for the Bison, placing 96th and 102nd out of 171 total runners, respectively.
"We were not ranked in the top 15 going into the race and we finished 12th, which is a solid showing," Donner said. "We beat some teams that had beaten us earlier in the year. It was great to see Orloski and Dorsey have great races. We closed the gap on Lehigh and Patriot League champion Navy quite a bit, which will give us a lot of confidence going into next year. Our guys started conservatively on the wet and muddy course and most of them moved up nicely. This regional experience will set us up well for a much stronger team next year."
Bucknell's men's and women's cross country teams will next compete on Saturday, Nov. 22, traveling to the Bronx, N.Y., for the ECAC/IC4A Championships.
