LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Princeton, N.J., on Saturday, Nov. 15, to participate in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Division I meet. This meet also serves as the qualifying race for the NCAA Championships to be held in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 24.
The Bison women's cross country squad is ranked No. 8 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Regional Cross Country Rankings. Bucknell finished second at the Patriot League Championships in Bethlehem, Pa., on Nov. 1. Navy, currently ranked sixth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, won the conference crown. Princeton is the No. 1 women's team in the Mid-Atlantic region, followed by Villanova and West Virginia. Fellow Patriot League team Lehigh places No. 11.
Bucknell freshman Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) finished second at the Patriot League Championships, winning Rookie of the Meet and Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week honors. Fulmer and classmate, and fellow all-league selection, Caitlin Cavanaugh (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) will be expected to lead the Orange and Blue at Princeton. Senior co-captain Gillian Nordquist (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) finished 57th out of 197 runners at last year's regional competition, tops among returning Bison runners. Sophomores Alexa Griffiths (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) and Sarah Moniz (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional) placed 75th and 84th, respectively, at the 2007 regional meet. Bucknell senior Nicole Falcaro (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) and sophomore Alaina Chodoff (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) round out the Bison who will be competing on Saturday.
Bucknell's men's cross country team is not currently ranked, but did place as high as No. 11 earlier this season. The Bison men placed fifth at the league championships, while Army and Navy tied for first. Army participates in the Great Lakes region, while Navy ranks sixth in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Georgetown ranks No. 1 in the Mid-Atlantic, followed by Princeton and Penn State. In addition to Navy's representation of the Patriot League in the poll, Lehigh ranks No. 10 and American is No. 12.
Bison junior Conor McNamara (Baldwin, N.Y./Chaminade) placed 15th at the Patriot League Championships, tops of any Bucknell runner. Classmate Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Governor Dummer Academy) was 17th, and has been the leading runner for the Orange and Blue in every other meet the team has participated in this year. Huebner finished 87th out of 201 participants at last year's Mid-Atlantic Regionals. Senior Clinton Orloski (Butler, Pa./Slipper Rock), a team co-captain along with Huebner, placed 65th in the race last year, best among returning Bison runners. Stephen Dorsey (North Wales, Pa./La Salle High School) finished 96th a year ago. Bucknell's Baron Willeford (New Orleans, La./Columbia Prep (N.Y.) ) and Donald Sanner (Meyersdale, Pa./Meyersdale) will run for the squad on Saturday, while some combination of Dorsey, sophomore Joshua Clark (Vincentown, Pa./Seneca) and senior Joe Foley (Howell, Mich./Flint Powers Catholic), will round out the field.
After this meet, Bucknell will send both its men's and women's teams to the ECAC/IC4A Championships on Nov. 22, in the Bronx, N.Y.
