Bucknell Women's Cross Country Takes Second at League Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Bucknell women's cross country team placed second at the Patriot League Championships, held in Bethlehem, Pa., on Saturday, Nov. 1, while the Bison men's team finished fifth. Navy won the women's race, and tied with Army for first on the men's side. Bucknell freshman Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) finished second overall in the women's race, finishing only 5.2 seconds behind Navy's Amy Watson. Bison junior Conor McNamara (Baldwin, N.Y./Chaminade) was Bucknell's top male runner, crossing the finish line in 15th place. Army's Jon Anderson was the men's individual champion.
The Bison women had a team score of 62, helped in large part to Fulmer, who finished the 6K race in 21 minutes, 28.7 seconds. Unfortunately for the Bison, Navy had five runners finish in the top nine, and the last of its seven scorers finished 14th. Overall, Navy's team score was 23. Lehigh placed third with a score of 93.
Fulmer's classmate, Caitlin Cavanaugh (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) finished second for the Bison and 12th overall, crossing the finish line in 21:59.2. Bucknell's Sarah Moniz (22:10.3) (Topsfield, Mass./Masconoment Regional), Alexa Griffiths (22:12.2) (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) and Gillian Nordquist (22:14.1) (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) finished 15th-17th. Bison senior Nicole Falcaro (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) finished 21st (22:16.8), and Alaina Chodoff (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) was the final scorer for the Orange and Blue, placing 24th with a time of 22:22.0.
Fulmer was named Rookie of the Meet and received First Team All-Patriot League accolades, while Cavanaugh was named Second Team All-Patriot League.
In the men's race, Navy and Army each had a final score of 47. Lehigh scored 77, followed by 86 for American and then the Bison with 122. McNamara finished the 8K in 25:24.1. Army's Anderson ran the race in 24:19.4, 17.6 seconds ahead of second place Andrew Hanko of Navy.
Bison junior Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Governor Dummer Academy) finished 17th (25:25.4), while sophomore Baron Willeford (New Orleans, La./Columbia Prep (N.Y.)) ran the race in 25:32.5, placing 25th. Seniors Clinton Orloski (25:36.4) (Butler, Pa./Slippery Rock) and Donald Sanner (24:45.7) (Myersdale, Pa./Myersdale) finished 30th and 35th, respectively. The final scorers for the Bison were Joshua Clark (Vincentown, N.J./Seneca), who placed 36th (25:26.4), and Dave Brown (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) who was right behind him in 37th (25:46.5).
Bucknell's cross country teams will compete again on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships, in Princeton, N.J.
