LEWISBURG, Pa. - A day after being named Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week, Bucknell cross country runner Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) was named Patriot League Female Cross Country Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. This is the second time that the freshman runner has been honored by the conference this year, as she was named Patriot League Female Runner of the Week on Sept. 23.
Fulmer is the second Bucknell female runner to earn rookie of the week honors from the Patriot League, as classmate Caitlin Cavanaugh (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) received that recognition on Sept. 9.
Fulmer was the top Bison runner at the 35th Annual Lehigh University Brooks Paul Short Run on Friday, Oct. 3, finishing 55th out of 301 competitors. She ran the 6K course in 21 minutes, 37 seconds, helping Bucknell place 12th out of the 43 teams entered in the event. That was the second best finish among Patriot League schools; Navy finished 10th.
Bucknell's women's cross country team is ranked No. 7 in the Mid-Atlantic region according to the latest National Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Poll, released on Monday. The Bison have placed in the poll every week so far this year, their highest ranking coming last week at No. 6.
Bucknell's women's and men's cross country teams will next compete on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, N.J. That will be their final meet before the Patriot League Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1, in Bethlehem, Pa.
