Bucknell Women's Rowing Hosts First-Ever Pennsylvania State Sculling Championships

SHAMOKIN DAM, Pa. (Susquehanna River) - Concluding a weekend where Bucknell women's rowing was celebrating the 25th anniversary of the program, the Bison hosted the first-ever Pennsylvania State Sculling Championships Sunday morning on the Susquehanna River. Bucknell faced the Central Pennsylvania Rowing Association (CPRA) in singles, quadruples and octuples.
Whittney Henry won the singles race in a time of 26:56 as Bucknell had 14 of the 15 entrants. Allegra Colandro (27:10) and Alison Cohen (27:42) finished second and third, respectively, behind Henry.
In the quads, Bucknell, which had three boats entered in the event, took the top two positions with the CPRA claiming third. The Bison "A" boat crossed the line in 22:48, while the Bucknell "B" contingent finished in 23:04. There was then more than a two-minute gap before the final two boats finished.
The Bison also claimed victory in the octuples race, finishing in 24:02, nearly five minutes ahead of their counterparts from the CPRA.
After an early-morning rain in the Susquehanna Valley on Saturday, the conditions for Sunday's event were great with no wind, flat water and temperatures in the low 50s.
Bucknell is expected to compete just one more time this fall at the Head of the Schuylkill Oct. 25-26.
