LEWISBURG, Pa. – Richie Hyden (Melbourne, Australia/Greenwich (Conn.)) became the third different Bison to be named the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Player of the Week this season and freshman Beau Caillouette (Newport Beach, Calif./Sage Hill School) became the first back-to-back CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.
Hyden, who shared honors with Johns Hopkins' Josh Kratz, joined teammates Sean Coghlan and Nick Donahue, who earned the same honor earlier this year.
Hyden has led the Bison offense throughout the season and currently has 111 points, the most by a Bucknell player since Kevin Permisohn tallied 112 in 2000. Hyden has nearly double the points of Johnny Stupp, who ranks second on the squad with 60.
This past week Hyden totaled six goals, five assists and three ejections drawn as Bucknell split two games against ranked foes. He posted four goals and two assists in an 11-9 loss to No. 15 Princeton and followed that with two goals and three assists in an 11-9 victory over No. 18 Brown. Hyden now has 10 consecutive multiple-goal outings and has tallied at least four goals on nine occasions this season. His team-high 71 goals place him among the national leaders in that category and are the most by a Bison since Ryan McCarty tallied 72 in 2000.
Caillouette earned his second consecutive Rookie of the Week honor after tallying an assist in each of Bucknell's games last week. He was one of two Bison freshmen to play in both games, while his 25 games played this season paces Bucknell rookies. Caillouette now has eight assists and 14 points on the season.
Bucknell (14-12), wraps up its regular season with a single game this Sunday, Nov. 2, against St. Francis (N.Y.). The time for that game is 12 p.m. in Kinney Natatorium. The Terriers are ranked No. 13 in the latest national poll, while the Bison are No. 19.
