PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Schuylkill River) – Seven Bucknell women's rowing boats were in action at the Head of the Schuylkill this past weekend and a Bison eight claimed a title at the event for the first time. One of Bucknell's five novice eight boats won the title, finishing nearly two seconds ahead of second-place Fordham.

Bucknell, which was competing for the just the second time this fall, had five of its seven boats in the 37-boat novice eight field, while two others raced in the open heavy championship eight.

The first-place Bison novice eight finished the race in 16:26.33. Bucknell's other boats finished seventh, 13th, 26th and 35th.

The two Bucknell eights in the open heavy championship eight posted showings of ninth place and 16th place.

“We have a very motivated group of women and it has been a very enjoyable fall,” commented Bison head coach Stephen Kish following the conclusion of the fall competition schedule.

After a winter full of training, Bucknell will return to action in the spring. The Bison will try to continue their recent success that has featured three consecutive Patriot League titles, two straight ECAC Metro Championship titles, a 2008 Eastern Sprints berth and the 2007 IRA Lightweight National Championship.
