SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - Battling a tough field and a U.S. Open-caliber golf course, the Bucknell women's golf squad finished up its 2008 fall season on Tuesday with a round of 339 at the Ross Resorts Invitational at Pine Needles.
All five Bison shot between 84 and 89 in the last of the three rounds, headed by 84s from senior Deirdre Moran (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) and sophomore Katie Jurenovich (Warren, Ohio/Howland). Freshman Brittany Rendell (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) fired an 85, while classmates Kelsey Meybin (Midlothian, Va./Saint Gertrude) and Minjoo Lee (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) shot 86 and 89, respectively, on a course that has hosted three U.S. Women's Opens, including the 2007 event won by Cristie Kerr.
Nova Southeastern finished with a 311 on Tuesday to take home the team title. Yale began the final round just two shots back, but the Bulldogs plummeted all the way to fifth with a 328 team score. Illinois State had the best finishing round in the field with a 309 to move up to second place, eight strokes behind the leader. Host Rollins finished third with a 54-hole total of 945, followed by Augusta State (946), Yale (948), Western Michigan (965), Memphis (971), Methodist (1000) and Bucknell (1003).
Stacey Miller of Illinois State shot 76-75-74 to win the individual title by two shots over Joanna Coe of Rollins and Emilie Geury of Augusta State.
Bucknell will be back in action again on Feb. 22-24 at the Kiawah Island Women's Intercollegiate in South Carolina.
