LEWISBURG, Pa. - Amid a busy Homecoming schedule this Saturday at Bucknell, the Bison basketball teams will have a pair of public showcases in Sojka Pavilion that are free and open to the public. The men's team will hold an Orange vs. Blue intrasquad scrimmage at 10:30 a.m., and at 4 p.m. Bison Mania fan fest will take place in Sojka Pavilion.
The Bison hoops teams have already had four days of practice under their belts, and the men's squad, under first-year head coach Dave Paulsen, will be bringing in referees to officiate an organized intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday.
Both the men's and women's teams will be featured at Bison Mania, a basketball celebration geared toward fans of all ages, from children to adults to Bucknell students. WQKX radio personalities Drew Kelly and Ali Stevens will emcee the proceedings, which will begin just after the conclusion of the Bucknell-Colgate football game.
From 4-5 p.m. the Sojka Pavilion floor will be open for games and contests. Members of the Bison men's and women's teams will be on hand to shoot around with fans. Contests include a youth lay-up competition, a college student slam dunk competition, a free throw station and a skills station. There will also be face-painting and "Dress Like a Bison" stations.
A formal program will begin at 5 p.m., with Paulsen and women's coach Kathy Fedorjaka introducing their teams. The women's 2008 Patriot League Championship and NCAA Tournament banners will be highlighted. Also on the itinerary are a raffle drawing, a BJ's Ribs $10,000 shot competition, a shooting contest involving the Bison coaches against Drew and Ali, and performances by the Bison cheerleaders and pep band. During the event, fans will also have an opportunity to win a set of season tickets, a Bucknell Athletics adidas prize pack and other great prizes.
During Bison Mania, Bucknell students who are registered Bison Backers should come pick up their tickets and Sojka Psychos tee shirts.
The Bison men's and women's teams are gearing up for their season openers, which are now less then a month away. The men open up at Maryland on Friday, Nov. 14, while the women play at George Mason that same night.
