BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's cross country teams ran at the 34th Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh on Friday. The Bison men took 15th of 41 participating schools with 418 points, and the women took 18th of 47 schools with 546 points. Villanova took first on the men's side (50) and Princeton took home the title for the women (45).
"Although we are not pleased with our overall place, I was pleased with how our men handled the adversity and stress of a competitive race, six days after a 10K on a tough course," said head coach Kevin Donner.
In the 8K race at Lehigh, senior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Al./Montgomery Academy) led Bucknell on the men's side, finishing 19th of 270 runners, in 24 minutes and 44 seconds. Senior Michael Gibney (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River) followed in 76th (25:40.00) and junior Clinton Orloski (Butler, Pa./Slippery Rock) clocked in at 25:50.00 for 96th. Sophomore Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Governor Dummer Academy) and senior Andrew Corral (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) also scored for Bucknell, finishing in 25:51.00 and 26:07.00, respectively.
According to Coach Donner, "Our women looked a little flat today. It seemed as if they were not fully recovered from our meet in Canada last weekend."
Senior Christine Totten (Perkasie, Pa./Pannridge) led the way for Bucknell on the women's side, running the 6K race in 22:00.00 for 63rd of 317 runners. Junior Gillian Nordquist (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) and junior Nicole Falcaro (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) followed in 92nd with a time of 22:27.00 and in 96th with a time of 22:29.00, respectively. Freshman Alexa Griffiths (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) finished in 22:51.00 and senior Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) ran a 23:21.00 to score for the Bison.
The Bison are now set to travel to Easton, Pa., for the Leopard Invitational on Oct. 13. Bucknell will return to Lafayette on Oct. 27 for the Patriot League Championships and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships are scheduled for Nov. 10 at Lehigh.
