Wallace Campbell Named Damon's Bison Athlete Of The Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. - On Monday, senior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Academy), of the Bucknell men's cross country team, earned Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week honors after leading Bucknell to a second-place finish at the Western Ontario International Invitational last Saturday.
In his second race of the season, and his first 10K of the year, Campbell was the top finisher for Bucknell, coming in second place out of 148 runners. He finished in 31 minutes, 59.00 seconds, just six seconds behind the first-place finisher, Josh Karanja of Eastern Michigan (31:53.00). Campbell led the Bison to a second-place team finish out of 17 participating schools, including Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, and several top-Canadian programs.
Campbell opened his senior season with a first-place finish at the Bison Open on Aug. 31. He ran the 3-mile race in 14:40.85, over 23 seconds ahead of the next finisher. Campbell was the No. 2 runner for the Bison last season, placing ninth at the 2006 Patriot League Championships, and earning All-Patriot League recognition.
The Bucknell men's and women's cross country teams are set to travel to Bethlehem, Pa., for the Paul Short Invitational on Friday, Sept. 28. Next, the Bison will travel to Easton, Pa., for the Leopard Invitational on Oct. 13 and will return to Lafayette on Oct. 27 for the Patriot League Championships.
