Bucknell's Josh Sunday Named CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's Josh Sunday (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was named the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Player of the Week Tuesday after tallying six goals, four steals and three ejections in leading the Bison to a 3-0 record last weekend. He is the second Bucknell men's water polo player to be honored by the CWPA this year, following Jason Rechel.
On Saturday, just 14 hours after completing a thrilling 13-12 overtime win over No. 15 Princeton, Sunday helped lead Bucknell to an 11-8 victory against No. 20 Johns Hopkins with a career-high-tying three goals to tie for the team lead. He also tied for the team lead with three steals and drew a team-high two ejections.
Sunday concluded the weekend with three more goals in a 7-6 win over George Washington on Sunday. His second goal evened the score at 5-all late in the third quarter and the Bison never trailed again. No one else on the team had more than one goal in the low-scoring affair.
This season, Sunday has 10 goals to ranked tied for fourth on the squad. He also has five steals and one assist and is one of just three Bison to start all nine games this year.
Sunday has helped Bucknell to a sparkling 8-1 record, including 3-0 in CWPA Southern Division play. The Bison have won eight games in a row, equaling their most consecutive victories since 1985.
Bucknell is idle this coming weekend and returns to action Sept. 29-30 with the ECAC Championship, which will take place at Kinney Natatorium. The first game of the two-day event for the Bison is against Brown at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29.
