LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Former Bucknell men's lacrosse goalie Matt Baran was named the Major League Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week last week after making an impressive starting debut for the New Jersey Pride.
Baran, a 2006 Bucknell graduate and three-year starter for the Bison, made his first MLL start and recorded a career-high 24 saves in a one-point loss to Long Island. Baran had been serving as a backup to former Johns Hopkins star Rob Scherr with the Pride before his breakout performance last weekend.
At Bucknell, Baran won 20 games over three years as a starting goalie, including a historic victory over No. 1-ranked Maryland during his senior year. He was a Second Team All-Patriot League selection in both 2005 and 2006 and was also named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll as a junior and senior.
Baran's 8.22 career goals-against average ranks second on Bucknell's career list, and he also ranks sixth in career saves (465) and ninth in save percentage (.582).
