LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior Lauren Olsen (Redmond, Wash./Lakeside School) and sophomores Whittney Henry (Mathews, Va./Mathews) and Jeweliet Yost (Ventnor, N.J./Atlantic City) were all named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Lightweight All-America Team earlier this week as Bucknell's three selections led the 10-person squad. Additionally, Bison head coach Stephen Kish was named Lightweight Coach of the Year by the CRCA, marking his third such honor this spring.
Olsen, Henry and Yost, who was the lone coxswain honored by the CRCA, were members of Bucknell's lightweight eight that won the IRA National Championship last Saturday. The Bison beat national powers such as Princeton and three-time defending champion Wisconsin to claim their first-ever trophy at the event.
Olsen spent much of the year in the stroke-seat of Bucknell's second varsity eight that posted a strong 7-2 record and won at both the Patriot League Championship as well as the ECAC Metro Championship.
Henry was the bow-seat of the varsity eight that had a nearly flawless 8-1 record this spring and copped Boat of the Year honors at the Patriot League Championship for the second consecutive year. She was an All-Patriot League and an All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection earlier this spring.
Yost, who was coxswain of the varsity eight this past year after filling the same role with the second varsity eight as a freshman, was also an All-Patriot League and an All-Mid-Atlantic Region choice last month as she helped the varsity eight to a No. 2 ranking in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Kish, who recently completed his 11th year at the helm of the Bison women's rowing program, earned his third Coach of the Year honor of 2007. He previously was named the Patriot League Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season and the Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year. He led Bucknell to unprecedented success this year as it claimed the Patriot League and ECAC Metro Championships as well as the IRA Lightweight Eight National Championship.
The trio of Bucknell student-athletes who earned Lightweight All-America plaudits are not the only Bison to be named All-America this spring as teammate Katherine Brewster-Duffy (Stonington, Conn./St. George's School) became the first All-American in program history earlier this week.
