LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the first time in program history, a Bucknell women's rower was named an All-American by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) as junior Katherine Brewster-Duffy (Stonington, Conn./St. George's School) copped honors on Monday. A key member of Bucknell's varsity eight, Brewster-Duffy was a second-team selection.
"As the first All-American in our program's history, Kate's dedication brings honor to the team as well as Bucknell," stated Bison head coach Stephen Kish, who led the lightweight eight to the IRA National Championship this past weekend. "She was named the Athlete of the Year at our annual team awards banquet and I couldn't be happier for her now that she is being recognized by the entire rowing community."
Brewster-Duffy sat six-seat in the Bison varsity eight this year as the boat posted a splendid 8-1 record with victories at the Patriot League Championship as well as the ECAC Metro Championship. Bucknell won the team titles at both events, including its second consecutive Patriot League trophy. The team finished the year ranked second in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region and Brewster-Duffy garnered First Team All-Region honors as well as All-Patriot League plaudits.
The Stonington, Conn., native originally joined the team as a walk-on during her freshman year and quickly solidified herself in the six-seat of the novice eight that recorded a program-record fifth-place finish at the Dad Vail Regatta in 2005. Last year, she moved into the six-seat of the varsity eight and helped Bucknell to its first-ever Patriot League title.
Brewster-Duffy is one of eight members of the Bison junior class on the varsity roster who are expected to return in 2007-08.
