Four Bucknell Women's Rowing Athletes Named to All-Patriot League Team

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Coming off its second consecutive Patriot League title last weekend at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass., the Bucknell women's rowing team placed a league-most four athletes on the All-Patriot League Team, announced Thursday by the league office. Junior Katherine Brewster-Duffy (Newport, R.I./St. George's School), along with sophomores Kelly Henkler (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), Whittney Henry (Mathews, Va./Mathews) and Jeweliet Yost (Ventnor, N.J./Atlantic City), were the four Bison honored.
All four of Bucknell's selections to the All-League team were members of the varsity eight boat that clinched the second straight Patriot League title with a 5.06 second victory over second-place Navy in the final race of the day. It is the second career honor for Henkler, who was in the stroke seat. Yost (coxswain), Brewster-Duffy (6-seat) and Henry (bow) were each cited for the first time in their careers.
In addition to the varsity eight winning its race, the Bison second varsity eight and varsity four each picked up victories, helping Bucknell sweep all three races and compile a record-tying 30 team points.
The format for the All-Patriot League Women's Rowing Team is predicated on the team's finish in the varsity eight race at the Patriot League championship. The first-place team earns three rowers and one coxswain, the second-place boat earns three rowers, while the third-place boat places two rowers on the all-league squad. Both the fourth and fifth-place finishers have one all-league selection.
In addition to the All-Patriot League plaudits, Bucknell's head coach, Stephen Kish, earned his second Coach of the Year honor, while the varsity eight copped Boat of the Year plaudits for the second time.
The Bison will be back in action this Saturday, May 5, when they travel back to Worcester, Mass., for the ECAC Metro Championship. The heats will begin at 11 a.m., while the varsity eight grand final is slated for 5:12 p.m.
