GAINESVILLE, Fla. - On Saturday, at the James G. Pressly Stadium on the campus of the University of Florida, seniors Marjorie Grap (Van-Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van-Etten), Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa/Butler Area) and Matthew Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) of the Bucknell track and field teams notched an impressive performance in the final day of competition at the 2007 NCAA East Regional Championships.
Grap improved on her 17th-place showing in the hammer last season by finishing sixth after throwing for a distance of 187 feet, 7 inches (57.18m), which was just one spot away from automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championships. She also finished 24th in the discus with a mark of 140-5 (42.79m).
Forys posted his top-10 performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after running a time of 8 minutes, 51.11 seconds, which was good for seventh place.
Buczko, who qualified for the NCAA Championships back in 2004 as a freshman, cleared her opening height of 12-0 (3.66m) on her first attempt. However, she was unable to surpass the 12-6 (3.81m) mark leaving her with a 10th-place result.
Also competing at the NCAA East Regional Championships was senior Joshua Kaehler (Hanover, Pa./South Western) and junior Christine Totten (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge).
Kaehler threw for a distance of 199-3 (60.74m) on his final attempt in the preliminaries, but it wasn't enough for the senior to make the finals as he finished 16th overall, while Totten placed 13th in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 11:08.18.
