LEWISBURG, Pa. - Four members of the Bucknell women's rowing team were named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-Mid-Atlantic Region teams this week. Katherine Brewster-Duffy (Stonington, Conn./St. George's School), Whittney Henry (Mathews, Va./Mathews) and Jeweliet Yost (Ventnor, N.J./Atlantic City) landed on the first team, while Kelly Henkler (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) was a second-team honoree. The quartet of Bison mark the first all-region selections in Bucknell history. Additionally, Bison head coach Stephen Kish was named the Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year.
"The all-region selections mark the hard work that the rowers have done to push each other to a place the program has never seen before," commented Kish about his team that equaled Princeton for the most all-region choices with four. "The selections are a credit to these individuals as well as a product of the drive and dedication of the entire team."
All four Bucknell rowers honored were key members of the varsity eight, which posted an impressive 8-1 record this spring. Brewster-Duffy sat in the six seat of the varsity eight, while Yost was the lone coxswain named to the first team. Henry, who was bow of the varsity four that won the Head of the Charles last fall, occupied the same seat this spring as part of the varsity eight. Henkler was the stroke of the varsity four boat that won the Head of the Charles. She moved back to the varsity eight this spring and was the stroke of that boat for the second consecutive season.
Each of the four Bison athletes honored also earned All-Patriot League plaudits earlier this month after helping Bucknell to its second consecutive Patriot League championship.
In addition to that league title and a second straight conference Boat of the Year honor, the varsity eight defeated crews from Georgetown, Rhode Island, Boston College, Navy, Buffalo and Massachusetts this year. The weekend after claiming the Patriot League title, each of the four all-region selections contributed to the boat title and team points win for Bucknell at the ECAC Metro Championship. The Bison finished the season ranked second out of 21 teams in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Kish, a 1992 Bucknell graduate, picked up his first Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year award. He is in his 11th year at the helm of the Bison program and has won the Patriot League Coach of the Year award each of the last two years.
Henry and Yost have not seen their seasons come to an end yet as both are expected to compete at the IRA Championships, June 1-2, as part of Bucknell's lightweight eight boat.
