PRINCETON, N.J. - On Saturday, the Bucknell track and field teams competed in the final day of competition at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., and the Sam Howell Memorial Invitational in Princeton, N.J. Senior Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) won her second straight pole vault competition at Auburn with a height of 12 feet, 5 ½ inches (3.80m), which was an NCAA Regional and ECAC qualifying mark, while Ann Doty (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney Area) placed first in the triple jump with a distance of 37-1 ¼ (11.31m) at Princeton.
Also at the Tiger Track Classic, senior Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) placed fourth in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:09.35, which made her an NCAA Regional and ECAC qualifier. Senior Joshua Kaehler (Hanover, Pa./South Western) became a NCAA Regional and IC4A qualifier after he threw for a distance of 204-9 (62.42m), which was good for third place. Freshman Kyle Anthony (Barrysville, N.Y./Eldred Academy) placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 48-9 ½ (14.87m), which qualified him for the IC4A Championships and moved him up to second place all-time on the top 10 list.
At the Sam Howell Memorial Invitational, freshman Steven Pierce continued his improvement in the javelin after he threw for a distance of 200-5 (61.09m), which was good for third place. His mark was also an IC4A qualifying mark. Sophomore Clinton Orloski (Butler, Pa./Slippery Rock) placed third in the 1,500 with a time of 4:02.18. Freshman Andrew Yehl (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) posted a third-place showing in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.55. Freshman Jennifer Pierce (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands) finished third with a time of 59.21 in the 400. Junior Beverly Rogers (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) placed third in the javelin with a mark of 127-7 (38.88m).
The quartet of senior Mariel Fink (Pennington, N.J./Hun School of Princeton), junior Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) and freshmen Allison Janda (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) and Pierce placed second in the 4x400 with a time of 4:04.47. The team of junior Brian Mooney (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) along with freshmen Clement Gyan (Yonkers, N.Y./Abraham Lincoln), Kyle Ramer (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) and Baron Willeford (New Orleans, La./Columbia Prep (N.Y.)) posted a second-place showing in the 4x400 with a time of 3:27.15.
Bucknell will host the two-day Bison Outdoor Classic starting on Friday, Apr. 13, at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
