NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (Narrow River) - The Bucknell women's rowing team continued its impressive spring season on Saturday with four victories in five races against Boston College, Rhode Island and the Radcliffe Lightweights on the chilly Narrow River. The varsity eight kept its perfect spring campaign alive as it is now undefeated in all five events since the beginning of March.
The varsity eight of Jeweliet Yost (coxswain), Kelly Henkler (stroke), Jennie Trayes (7), Katherine Brewster-Duffy (6), Christine Drasba (5), Betsy Schneider (4), Page Kannor (3), Caitlin Doolin (2) and Whittney Henry (bow) crossed the finish line in 7 minutes, 22.47 seconds, more than six seconds ahead of second-place Rhode Island. Boston College took third in 7:35.75.
The second varsity eight, which has won every one of its races this spring except when it was pitted against its own varsity eight teammates, kept that streak alive, finishing in 7:48.13. Rhode Island was second in 7:53.96, while Boston College crossed the finish line third in 7:55.23. The Radcliffe Lightweights rounded out the four-boat race in 8:08.53. Bucknell's second varsity eight consisted of Katie Kessler (coxswain), Lauren Olsen (stroke), Laura Roberts (7), Sophie Bird (6), Meghan Murphy (5), Brittany Kaplan (4), Devon Mitchell (3), Olivia Knodt (2) and Meredith Henry (bow) in what was a slight change from the expected lineup that had rowed on Sunday against Princeton.
The Bison completed its sweep of the races involving eights when the lightweight eight easily defeated Rhode Island and the Radcliffe Lightweights. Bucknell's boat of Jeweliet Yost (coxswain), Lauren Olsen (stroke), Laura Roberts (7), Gillian Carter (6), Whittney Henry (5), Kim Weaver (4), Meredith Henry (3), Jessica Glenn (2) and Devon Mitchell (bow), many of whom had already competed earlier in the morning, finished in 7:15.31. The Rams' third varsity eight was about 15 seconds behind in 7:30.78, while Radcliffe was another 15 seconds back in 7:45.12.
Bucknell's second varsity four of Mary Wilson (coxswain), Jessica Glenn (stroke), Cara Cox-Steiner (3), Beth Mooney (2) and Amy VanNostrand (bow) rounded out the list of winning boats for the Bison on Saturday. Bucknell (8:52.65) finished first with Boston College (9:18.36) and the Radcliffe Lightweights (9:25.96) rounding out the three-boat field.
Bucknell's varsity four of Lauren Yee (coxswain), Gillian Carter (stroke), Susan Shadle (3), Elizabeth Regan (2) and Amanda Gallina (bow) took second in its race. The Bison registered a time of 8:52.00, while Rhode Island took first in 8:44.38. Boston College (9:17.03) was a distant third.
