LEWISBURG, Pa. - On Monday, the Bucknell women's rowing varsity eight earned the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week award. The boat claimed the honor based on its first-place showing at this past weekend's Patriot League Championship, where it helped lead Bucknell to its second straight Patriot League title.
Entering the final race of the championship, the varsity eight, Bucknell held a three-point lead on Navy, the eventual runner-up. In order to claim the title outright the Bison needed to finish at least one position ahead of the Mids. The varsity eight came through and won in a time of 6 minutes, 34.47 seconds, 5.06 seconds ahead of second-place Navy. For the victory, the Bucknell varsity eight also copped Patriot League Boat of the Year plaudits for the second consecutive season.
The members and seat positions of the varsity eight were: Jeweliet Yost (coxswain), Kelly Henkler (stroke), Jennie Trayes (7), Katherine Brewster-Duffy (6), Christine Drasba (5), Betsy Schneider (4), Page Kannor (3), Caitlin Doolin (2) and Whittney Henry (bow).
The performance of the varsity eight capped a strong day for the Bison as the varsity four and second varsity eight also posted victories giving Bucknell, which was picked first in the preseason poll, a record-tying 30 points in the final standings.
