Bucknell Women's Rowing Wraps up Home Campaign with Two Wins Against Penn State and Susquehanna

SHAMOKIN DAM, Pa. (Susquehanna River) - On the day before the Patriot League Championships, the Bucknell women's rowing second varsity four, novice four and novice eight faced regional foes Penn State and Susquehanna on the Susquehanna River. The second varsity four and novice eight each won their races, while the novice four took second to the Nittany Lions.
The largest margin of victory in the morning's three races was by the second varsity four of Lauren Weinstein (coxswain), Jessica Glenn (stroke), Cara Cox-Steiner (3), Beth Mooney (2) and Amy VanNostrand (bow), which won its four-boat race by more than 19 seconds over Susquehanna's lightweight four. The Bison finished in 6 minutes, 33.32 seconds, while Susquehanna crossed the line in 6:52.67. Penn State's second varsity four took third in 6:55.18, while Susquehanna's varsity four rounded out the field in 7:03.62.
The novice eight of Lauren Lesko (coxswain), Kerry Sullivan (stroke), Diana McCullough (7), Meghan O'Reilly (6), Sarah Germani (5), Kim Weaver (4), Chrissy Friedlander (3), Justine Bailey (2) and Lauren Hallanan (bow) won its race in 6:21.37, more than 16 seconds faster than Susquehanna's time of 6:37.51. Penn State was third in 6:44.83.
The Bison novice four competed tough in a two-boat race against Penn State, but took second in 6:54.23. The Nittany Lions won the closest race of the day with a time of 6:47.71. Bucknell's boat consisted of Mary Wilson (coxswain), Kate Courtien (stroke), Stefanie Marquette (3), Jen Butler (2) and Sara Baughn (bow).
Bucknell, which already has its varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four in Worcester, Mass., will participate in the Patriot League Championships on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. on Lake Quinsigamond. The Bison won the 2006 title by two points over 2005 champion Navy.
