LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Amy Loughney (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) has been named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week in recognition of her all-conference performance at the Big South Women's Golf Championship last week at Coosaw Creek Country Club in Charleston, S.C.
Loughney equaled her career-best score with a 4-over-par 75 in the final round on Wednesday. It was the fifth-best score in the field that day, and it moved Loughney into a tie for 10th place and earned her a spot on the All-Big South Team for the second time in three years.
She also earned all-conference honors as a freshman when she tied for fifth place, and last season she just missed an all-league certificate when she finished 11th.
Loughney opened the 54-hole Big South Championship with a 77, which put her just two shots off the individual lead. She carded an 81 in the second round, then rallied back into the top 10 with the excellent final round.
It was Loughney's fifth top-10 finish in nine events in 2006-07, and it was her eighth career top-10. She posted a solid 79.9 scoring average for the fall and spring seasons combined.
The Bucknell women's golf team finished seventh at the Big South Championship, bringing an end to an outstanding season. In the fall the Bison won their first-ever team title at the Bison Fall Classic, and they tied the school record with a round of 314 at Penn State in September.
