LEWISBURG, Pa - The Patriot League announced Tuesday that seniors Matthew Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) and Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) along with freshman Kyle Anthony (Barrysville, N.Y./Eldred Central) were named Patriot League Performers of the Week for their performances at the Sam Howell Memorial Invitational in Princeton, N.J., and the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., this past weekend.
Forys, who was tabbed the Male Performer of the Week, became and NCAA East Regional and IC4A Championship qualifier in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after he posted a time of 8 minutes, 50.10 seconds, which won him the event at the Sam Howell Memorial Classic and ranks him second all-time.
Sawko was awarded the Female Track Performer of the Week for her fourth-place showing in the 800 with a time of 2:09.35 at the Tiger Track Classic. Her time qualified her for the NCAA East Regional and the ECAC Championships. Sawko currently owns the school record in the 800 and the 1,500 with times of 2:08.98 and 4:28.28, respectively.
Anthony was named the Male Rookie of the Week for his 48 feet, 9 ½ inches (14.87m) mark posted in the triple jump in Auburn that qualified him for the IC4A Championships. His distance was good for fourth place and ranks him second in school history.
Bucknell will host the two-day Bison Outdoor Classic starting on Friday, Apr. 13, at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The meet will begin at 3 p.m. with the men's 100 hurdle heptathlon and the women's hammer throw.
