LEWISBURG, Pa. - On the heels of an impressive 2-0 week, the Bucknell women's lacrosse team accounted for three of the four Patriot League weekly awards on Monday. Sophomore Alex Radebaugh (Freeland, Md./Notre Dame Prep) was named the defensive player of the week, freshman Katie Hartsock (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) was named goalie of the week and freshman Carol Donahue (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) was picked as the rookie of the week.
It was an excellent defensive week for the Bison. First they yielded only five goals in an 18-5 lashing of Long Island on Monday night in Florida, then they held a potent Duquesne offense nearly four goals below its season average in a narrow 11-9 win on Sunday afternoon.
Radebaugh and Hartsock helped spearhead those defensive efforts. On Sunday, Radebaugh was assigned to Duquesne star Kathleen McNish, who had 31 points in five previous games. Radebaugh held McNish to only a single assist while causing four turnovers. She also had two caused turnovers against LIU.
Hartsock made nine saves and collected six ground balls against LIU while allowing a season-low five goals. Then she posted a career-high 18 saves in the victory over Duquesne, 10 coming in a second half that was closely contested throughout. Hartsock, who has played every second in goal this season, had a .659 save percentage for the week, upping her season mark to .481.
Donahue continued her ascent as one of the top young scorers in the Patriot League by tallying four goals in both games this week. Against Duquesne she scored perhaps the biggest goal of the day, a late tally that pushed Bucknell's lead from 10-9 to 11-9, ending any thoughts of a Dukes comeback. She also had an assist in that game, giving her five total points. Including a one-goal, five-assist performance against Robert Morris the previous week, Donahue now has 15 points in the last three games and has taken over the team scoring lead.
The Bison are now 2-3 on the season with a home game against Manhattan looming on Thursday at 4 p.m.
