LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Facing its most difficult opponent on its spring break trip to California, the Bucknell women's water polo team lost 12-3 to No. 11 Loyola Marymount Thursday. The Bison suffered the first loss of their trip West and fell to 11-10 on the season.
Bucknell yielded four goals to the Lions in both the second and third quarters as it fell behind 6-2 at the half and 10-2 after three quarters.
Elizabeth Jensen (San Mateo, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep), Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Valentina Rozas (Pico Rivera, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) each netted single goals to account for all of the scoring for the Bison. Rowe and Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) dished out one assist apiece.
Despite the nine-goal final margin, Bucknell did register 10 steals, including three by Jennifer Swoyer (Erie, Pa./McDowell). Mandy Bynum (San Jose, Calif./Leland) made five saves in goal to further bolster the defensive unit.
The Bison, who were just 1-for-4 in six-on-five opportunities against Loyola Marymount, will wrap up their west-coast swing with two games Saturday. The first is against UC Irvine, the alma mater of current Bucknell assistant coach John Abdou, while the nightcap is against Cal State Northridge. Both games will be played at Northridge.
