Bucknell Women's Basketball Holds Off Navy for 76-66 Victory

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Lauren Schober led four Bucknell players in double figures with 16 points as the Bucknell women's basketball team outlasted Navy, 76-66, Saturday afternoon at Alumni Hall. The Bison defeated the Mids for the fifth consecutive time and for the 18th time in their last 20 meetings as they held on to their top spot in the Patriot League standings by improving to 7-1 in league play and 15-8 overall.
Jacquie Seawright (Olton, Texas/Olton) and Amanda Brown (Richardson, Texas/L.V. Berkner) added 15 points apiece to join Schober in double figures, while Hope Foster (Washington, D.C./Dunbar) chipped in 13, including 11 in the second half.
Despite converting just one field goal in a seven-minute stretch, Bucknell led 54-47 midway through the second half when Navy's leading scorer, Carly Meyer, picked up her fourth foul and went to the bench. In the 2:26 she was out of the game the Bison outscored the Mids 12-4 and opened up a 15-point lead, their largest of the contest to that point.
Meyer scored eight of her 12 points, 10 of which came in the second half, as Navy tried to chip away at Bucknell's game-high 16-point advantage. However, Navy could draw no closer than nine points on a pair of occasions in the final five minutes.
The first half was a close affair until midway through when Bucknell opened up a 10-point lead following a 13-2 run highlighted by four points each from Le'Le' LeSeur (Snellville, Ga./Wesleyan) and Brown and a 3-pointer from the top of the key from Schober. That 3-pointer was the sixth lead change of the half and gave the Bison the lead for good.
Like Meyer, who played just 20 minutes due to foul trouble, Foster, Bucknell's leading scorer, was limited to just 26 minutes. She grabbed four rebounds, all on the offensive end and reached the 800-point mark in her career.
Navy was led by 27 points from Margaret Knap, including 19 in the first half as she was 11 of 19 shooting in the contest.
Kesha Champion (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) led the Bucknell defense that pressured Navy most of the game with four steals as the Mids turned the ball over a season-high 26 times. She also equaled Brown for team-high honors with six rebounds and dished out a career-high eight assists.
Meyer and Lindi Conner led Navy (9-13, 3-5 PL) with 10 boards apiece as they each recorded double-doubles. The Mids outrebounded the Bison 40-30.
Bucknell concludes its two-game road trip Tuesday at American at 5:30 p.m.
