Bucknell Women's Tennis Falls to Quinnipiac 7-0

HAMDEN, Conn. - On Saturday, the Bucknell women's tennis squad was blanked by Quinnipiac, 7-0, at the Bobcats' indoor tennis facility. The Bison, now 1-3 this season, are in the midst of a six-match road trip to begin the season.
Freshman Renee Weissend (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) forced a two-set superbreaker with Danielle Rodriguez, but was defeated 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), in the No. 6 spot.
Freshman Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates School) was dropped in the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 6-2, by Gabby Pasternak. In the No. 2 slot, sophomore Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown High School) fell to Mary Wilson, 6-2, 7-5.
Freshman Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) lost to Jackie Herb in the No. 3 spot, 6-1, 6-4. In the No. 4 spot, freshman Kirstyn Sotak (Beechwood, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) was defeated by Amanda Petruzzi, 6-2, 6-2, while sophomore JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park High School) lost to Kasey Rosenberger, 7-5, 6-3, in the No. 5 slot.
The Bobcats (1-1) collected the doubles point by winning all three matches. Calcaterra and Gamboa fell to Pasternak and Wilson, 8-2, in the No. 1 spot, while Herb and Petruzzi beat Globerman and junior Caitlin Baffa (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills High School East), 8-4, in the No. 2 slot. Sotak and Weissend were defeated by Rodriguez and Shawna Sarson, 8-1 in the No. 3 spot.
Bucknell will return to action next weekend as it faces Brown and Rhode Island at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively, on Saturday, Feb. 17, in Providence, R.I.
