Bucknell Men's Indoor Track and Field Competes in Winter Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa - On Saturday, the Bucknell men's indoor track and field squad took part in the 18th Annual Bucknell Winter Classic in Gerhard Fieldhouse. Senior Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) set a new school record in the 35-lb weight throw with a distance of 65 feet, 2 inches (19.86m), which was an NCAA provisional and IC4A qualifying mark.
Senior Matthew Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) posted a first-place showing in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8 minutes, 29.04 seconds, which was an IC4A qualifying mark. Freshman Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) ran a time of 7.73 in the 55 hurdles, which qualified him for the IC4A Championships and ranks him fourth in school history.
Seniors Derrin Pierret (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) and Adam Syty (East Amherst, N.Y./Clarence) and freshman Kevin McGoldrick (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) placed first thru third, respectively, in the 1,000. Pierret finished with a time of 2:32.36, Syty broke the plane at 2:34.22 and McGoldrick ran a time of 2:34.59.
In the shot put, senior Nick DeGregorio (Ridgewood, N.J./Bergen Catholic) launched a distance of 48-2 (14.68m), which was good for first place, while Timothy Medlock (Evan Mills, N.Y./Indian River) finished second with a toss of 47-4 ½ (14.44m). DeGregorio also finished third in the weight throw with a distance of 50-1 ¾ (15.28m) behind junior teammate James Meyer (Pac. Palisades, Calif./Pacific Palisades), who throw for a distance of 53-2 ¾ (16.22m).
Junior David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) placed first in the pole after clearing a height of 15-3 (4.65m), which tied his personal best, while freshman Jason Inzana (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) finished second with a height of 14-9 (4.50m), which was a personal best. Junior Brian Mooney (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chile) and Clement Gyan (Yonkers, N.Y./Abraham Lincoln) placed first and second, respectively, in the 500. Mooney notched a time of 1:05.80, which ranks him eighth in school history, while Gyan crossed the line with a time of 1:06.98.
Senior Matthew Bonelli (Califon, N.J./Pingry School) place second in the 400 with a time of 51.17. Senior Richard Simpson (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) posted a third-place finish in the high jump with a height of 6-7 (2.01m).
The Bucknell men's indoor track and field team will look for its first Patriot League Championship since 1993 on Friday, Feb. 16, in West Point, N.Y., on the campus of Amry. The meet will start at 11 a.m.
