Bucknell Wrestling Set to Play Host to Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Before breaking for exams, the Bucknell wrestling team will face EIWA foe Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 in Davis Gym. The Bison will be looking to stretch their winning streak to three after picking up a pair of victories last Saturday versus George Mason and Millersville in their 2007-08 home opener. Bucknell is currently 2-4 on the year (0-1 EIWA), while the Diplomats are 2-1 (0-1 EIWA).

A Look at Bucknell's Probable Starters
- 125: Freshman José Matos (Williamstown, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) is 5-8 on the season (0-3 duals) and recorded place-winning performances at the Binghamton Open (4th) and at the Navy Classic (6th). He is expected to face Franklin & Marshall's Jake Bucha (5-3).
- 133: Sophomore co-captain David Marble (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville Area) or sophomore Greg Hart (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) will wrestle at this weight. As of the most recent InterMat/NWMA/NWCA Division I Individual Rankings that were released Nov. 27, Marble is 15th at 133. He currently holds an overall record of 11-3 (4-2 duals) and won both of his bouts in Bucknell's tri-meet this past weekend, downing Joe Coughlin of George Mason, 9-3, and posting a 20-10 major decision against Millersville's Mark Stockdill. Hart, who went 2-0 at the tri-meet with wins over Denny Herndon of George Mason (4-1) and John Andel of Millersville (fall, 4:44) wrestling at 125 pounds, is 8-4 overall on the year and 2-1 in duals. Stephen Sabreen (2-3) is expected to wrestle for the Diplomats at 133.
- 141: Sophomore Luke Chohany (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) holds a record of 7-5 (2-1 duals) and posted two victories in the tri-meet, including a 10-2 major decision over Brandon Bucher of George Mason. Franklin & Marshall is expected to forfeit at this weight.
- 149: Freshman Kevin LeValley (Hugo, Colo./Limon) is 12-5 (4-2 duals) on the season with seven major decisions. Both his duals losses came against ranked foes at the Northeast Duals. (No. 2 Josh Churella of Michigan and No. 5 Scott Ervin of Appalachian State). This past weekend against George Mason and Millersville, LeValley posted two major decisions, defeating the Patriots' Aaron Keeton, 12-3, and Cody Becker of the Marauders, 9-1. He is expected to face Al Gianforti (2-4).
- 157: Freshman Ryan Ochalek (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) is 7-8 on the year (1-4 duals). Last Saturday, Ochalek picked his first collegiate duals victory, 6-0 over Phil Santee of Millersville. Ochalek is expected to face Anthony Bongarzone (5-4).
- 165: Sophomore co-captain Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway Area), ranked 17th at 165, leads the Bison in wins with 13. He is 13-3 (5-1 duals) on the year with two pins and seven major decisions. He posted two major decisions in the tri-meet against George Mason and Millersville, 14-4 against Tyler Tisdell and 14-3 versus David Morey. Rendos' only duals loss to date came against then-ranked No. 2 Eric Tannenbaum of Michigan, who moved up to the No. 1 spot the following week. Rendos is expected to face Franklin & Marshall's Nino San Doval (3-3).
- 174: Freshman Rob Waltko (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) is 5-6 on the season (0-2 duals) with a fifth-place finish at the Navy Classic to his credit. Waltko is expected to face the Diplomats' Justin Herbert (8-1).
- 184: Freshman David Thompson (West Liberty, Ohio/Graham Local) holds a record of 8-3 (4-2 duals). He clinched Bucknell's win over George Mason last Saturday with a 15-0 technical fall against Bill Widener. Thompson went on to post a 13-4 major decision over Steve Funk of Millersville later that afternoon. He is expected to face Dan Canfield (1-4) on Tuesday.
- 197: Freshman Charlie Wonsettler (Scenery Hill, Pa./North Allegheny) holds an overall record of 5-5 (1-1 duals) after seeing his first action of the season at this weight against George Mason and Millersville. In the tri-meet, Wonsettler suffered a 14-4 major decision loss to Cale Byers of George Mason, but rebounded with a 6-4 victory over Keith McDonald of Millersville. He is expected to face Shawn Logue (2-3).
- 285: Sophomore co-captain George Hingson (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) is 12-5 on the season (4-2 duals) and posted a 6-3 win over Raymond Bennett of Millersville this past weekend. He is expected to face Nico Somers (4-4).
A Recap of Bucknell's Tri-Meet with George Mason and Millersville
- Bucknell collected its first two duals victories of the season as the Orange and Blue defeated George Mason, 23-20, and blanked Millersville, 37-0, in its home opener on Dec. 1, in Davis Gym. Bucknell started off strong against George Mason, registering wins in the first four bouts. Thompson clinched the Bison victory with a 15-0 technical fall against Bill Widener at 184. George Mason went on to record wins at 197 and 285 to bring the final score to 23-20. In their 37-0 rout of Millersville, the Bison registered five bonus point victories, highlighted by Hart's pin against John Andel 4:44 into the 125-pound match, which gave the Orange and Blue a 6-0 start.
Sophomore Leaders
- Hingson, Marble and Rendos will serve as captains for the Bison for the 2007-08 season. Marble and Rendos were both NCAA qualifiers as freshmen, Rendos with a third-place finish at the EIWA Championships and Marble with a wild card berth after taking sixth at EIWAs. Rendos went 27-6 in his first year with the Orange and Blue and set a program record for dual-meet wins with a 19-3 mark. Marble posted a 24-13 record as a freshman (16-6 in duals) and Hingson was 14-12 overall, 11-8 in dual-meet competition.
