LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's cross country teams are set to run at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships this Saturday at Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa., scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. The Bison had this past weekend off and most recently ran at the Patriot League Championships on Oct. 27, at Lafayette. Earlier this season, Bucknell ran at Lehigh for the Paul Short Invitational on Sept. 28.
The Bison women defended their Patriot League Championship title on Oct. 27, tying Navy for first place in the league. The Bucknell women's team ranks eighth (tied with Navy) on the US Track and Field, Cross Country Coaches Association's Mid-Atlantic Regional rankings list, released Nov. 5.
"The last two years we were ranked seventh going in and we finished fifth," said head coach Kevin Donner concerning the women. "This year we are eighth and I would love to see a top-five to top-seven finish. Our ladies know the course well and they need to stay focused the entire race. This year may be one of the strongest years as we have four teams from the Mid-Atlantic region that are nationally ranked (Princeton, West Virginia, Georgetown and Penn State). This should open the doors a little for some possible individual qualifiers. I believe Erin Cranmer-Hart and Christine Totten are dark horses for those spots."
The Bison men took fourth place at the Patriot League Championships and currently rank 11th in the Mid-Atlantic region. Concerning the men, Coach Donner says, "We would love to get our program back in the top-10. We are ranked 11th and we always make a goal to finish higher than our ranking. We are running a veteran team and the seniors may possibly be running their last cross country race ever. I believe Wallace Campbell has an outside shot to qualify for NCAAs."
