Three Bucknell Women's Rowing Novice Boats Finish in Top Eight at Head of the Occoquan

FAIRFAX, Va. (Occoquan Reservoir) - The Bucknell women's rowing team sent three novice eights to the Head of the Occoquan nearly two weeks ago and came away with an impressive three top-10 finishes in a 21-boat field. The Bison boats took third, sixth and eighth at their first collegiate event.
Navy's "A" and "B" boats took the top two spots in the race, finishing in 19 minutes, 54.23 seconds and 19:54.68. Bucknell's third-place boat crossed the finish line in 20:39.82, while the other two were within 50 seconds of third place.
The Bison third-place eight consisted of Katherine Relle (coxswain), Kathryn Lang (stroke), Emily Gadsden (7), Megan Long (6), Brianna Clarke (5), Megan Crawley (4), Alexandra Blumenstock (3), Sarah O'Laughlin (2) and Jennifer Pretz (bow).
The sixth-place boat finished in 21:14.56, more than two seconds ahead of George Mason. The boat included Robyn Roogow (coxswain), Abigail Woodward (stroke), Rachel Lowenstein (7), Erin Sculley (6), Caitlyn Oster (5), Kathleen McConahy (4), Stephanie Diegel (3), Emily Fry (2) and Amy Goodfriend (bow).
The final Bison boat to finish recorded a time of 21:27.45. The novices that were in that eight were: Brenna English-Loeb (coxswain), Claire Munley (stroke), Kelly Usenko (7), Lindsay Cover (6), Laura Moreno (5), Caitlin Hirson (4), Eleanor Hoffman (3), Katherine Palmer (2) and Christa Rotolo (bow).
"All three novice boats had great races and displayed a lot of potential by placing in the top 10," said Bucknell 12th-year head coach Stephen Kish following the race. "The group is very motivated and we look forward to seeing what they can do in the spring."
The Head of the Occoquan was the lone fall competition for Bucknell. The Bison will begin their spring season in March.
