LEWISBURG, Pa. - Despite picking up just one win on its five-game trip to California, the Bucknell men's water polo team did receive an individual honor earlier this week when senior co-captain Jason Rechel (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) was named the Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division Player of the Week. It was the second time this season he earned the award.
Rechel totaled seven goals, six assists and three steals in Bucknell's four games at the SoCal Tournament. His best performance of the weekend came when he totaled a team-high three goals and two assists in an 11-6 win over Pomona Pitzer.
In addition to his three-goal performance against Pomona Pitzer, Rechel also posted three goals and five points against No. 14 Pacific on Saturday.
Rechel leads the Bison, who are ranked 15th nationally, with 42 goals this season, just three shy of his career high. He also has 21 assists, which stands second on the squad. Additionally, he is among the team leaders in steals and ejections drawn and has been the Bison's top sprinter, winning 38 of 69.
Rechel and the rest of his Bucknell (12-9, 3-2 CWPA) teammates will wrap up their regular season this weekend with five games in three days. The busy weekend of play begins Friday, Oct. 19, with an 8 p.m. contest at Navy.
