IRVINE, Calif. - In its second game of the day at the SoCal Tournament, the No. 15 Bucknell men's water polo team lost to No. 14 Pacific, 11-9, Saturday evening. The Bison were led by three goals from Jason Rechel (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) as they fell short in their attempt to defeat Pacific for the second time this season.
Bucknell (11-7) will play Redlands, which is ranked No. 1 in Division III, at 11 a.m. Eastern on Sunday.
Rechel, who now has a team-high 37 goals this season, also added a pair of assists for the Bison. Richie Hyden (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich), who piled up two goals and one assist, and Mark Masterson (Kihei, Hawaii/Marin), who registered one goal and one assist following a four-point game against Pepperdine earlier in the day, joined Rechel with multiple points. Additionally, Gabriel Heiber (Aventura, Fla./Miami Beach) tallied one goal and two assists.
Bucknell played Pacific, a team it defeated 10-5 early in September, closely in the first half, trailing just 7-6 at the half. However, the Tigers outscored the Bison 3-0 in the third quarter to open a four-goal advantage.
Freshman Miles Gilhuly (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) got his fourth start of the season in goal and made a career-high 12 saves, the most of any Bucknell player this season.
The Bison will be back in action Sunday morning at 11 a.m. against Redlands. Bucknell was 1-0 against Redlands in 2006.
