Bucknell Cross Country Returns To Action At Lafayette Saturday

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's cross country teams are set to run at the Leopard Invitational at Lafayette on Saturday, Oct. 13. The Bison had last weekend off and last ran at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh on Sept. 28.
According to head coach Kevin Donner, "With Lafayette hosting the Patriot League Championships in two weeks, we felt it was important to get on the course in a competitive atmosphere this weekend so we can come up with a sound strategy for Oct. 27. This will be a very important race for our middle runners who will be trying to make the travel squad."
Bison Cross Country Notebook
On the Men at Paul Short on Sept. 28 -
- The Bison men took 15th of 41 participating schools with 418 points, Villanova took first on the men's side with 50 points.
- In the 8K race at Lehigh, senior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Al./Montgomery Academy) led Bucknell on the men's side, finishing 19th of 270 runners, in 24 minutes and 44 seconds.
- Senior Michael Gibney (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River) followed in 76th (25:40.00) and junior Clinton Orloski (Butler, Pa./Slippery Rock) clocked in at 25:50.00 for 96th.
- Sophomore Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Governor Dummer Academy) and senior Andrew Corral (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) also scored for Bucknell, finishing in 25:51.00 (99th) and 26:07.00 (128th), respectively.
On the Women at Paul Short on Sept. 28 -
- The Bison women took 18th of 47 schools with 546 points while Princeton took home the title for the women with 45 points.
- Senior Christine Totten (Perkasie, Pa./Pannridge) led the way for Bucknell on the women's side, running the 6K race in 22:00.00 for 63rd of 317 runners.
- Junior Gillian Nordquist (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) and junior Nicole Falcaro (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) followed in 92nd and 96th with times of 22:27.00 and 22:29.00, respectively.
- Freshman Alexa Griffiths (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) finished in 22:51.00 (125th) and senior Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) ran a 23:21.00 (170th) to score for the Bison.
Honors and Rankings -
- On Oct. 2, Campbell and Griffiths notched Patriot League weekly honors. Campbell was named PL Male Runner of the Week and Griffiths was named PL Female Rookie of the Week.
- Campbell notched Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week Honors on Sept. 24 for his second-place finish of 148 runners in the 10K race at the Western Ontario International Invitational.
- For his first-place finish at the Bison Open, Campbell earned Patriot League Runner of the Week Honorable Mention for the men on Sept. 5. Campbell earned his second Honorable Mention on Sept. 25 for leading the men in the Western Ontario.
- Freshman Stephen Dorsey (North Wales, Pa./Casalle Collegiate) notched Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 11 after leading the Bucknell freshman class for a second consecutive week. At the Bison Open, on Aug. 31, he was the highest finisher of Bison newcomers, and was the top finisher for the all-freshman squad at the Bloomsburg Invitational on Sept. 8.
- As of Oct. 8, the Bucknell women's cross country team ranks 10th on the US Track and Field, Cross Country Coaches Association's Mid-Atlantic Regional rankings list. Bucknell's men's team is also ranked 10th for the Mid-Atlantic region.
- On Aug. 28, the Bucknell women's cross country team took the No. 1 spot in the Patriot League Preseason Poll with 96 points and 13 first-place votes. On the men's side, Bucknell tied with Army for the third pick in the league preseason poll released with 67 points.
Looking Ahead -
- Following the Leopard Invitational, Bucknell will return to Lafayette on Oct. 27 for the Patriot League Championships. The Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships are scheduled for Nov. 10 at Lehigh.
