LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the first time this season, and the second time in her career, Bucknell sophomore guard Amanda Brown (Richardson, Texas/L.V. Berkner) was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. The member of the women's basketball team helped lead the Bison to a 1-1 record last week when she netted a career high-tying 22 points in a 67-47 win over Navy.
Brown made 9 of 17 field goals, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range, to accumulate her game-high 22 points as Bucknell defeated the Mids for the fourth consecutive time. In three career games opposite Navy Brown is averaging 20.0 points per contest. Her four 3-pointers equaled her career high, set in last season's Patriot League opener against the Mids. A 2005-06 Patriot League All-Rookie Team selection, Brown also pulled down five rebounds, dished out two assists and recorded a pair of steals against Navy.
Earlier in the week in a low-scoring 45-44 loss to Iona, Brown came off the bench to net nine points, dish out a team-high four assists and connect on three 3-pointers.
With her 31 points last week, Brown increased her scoring average to 9.9 points per game, which is good for third on the team this year. She is averaging 14.0 ppg over her last five games.
After coming off the bench for six consecutive contests, Brown, who is tied for second in the Patriot League in steals, returned to the starting lineup against Navy. She has started nine times and is tallying 11.8 ppg in those contests.
Brown and the rest of the Bison wrap up their four-game homestand Wednesday, Jan. 10, when they host American at Sojka Pavilion. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m.
