LEWISBURG, Pa - Seniors Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten), Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) and Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville), along with sophomore Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) and freshman Allison Janda (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) of the Bucknell indoor track and field squads were honored by the Patriot League Tuesday for their stellar performances at the Bison Open and Multi and Penn State National Invitational this past weekend.
Grap, who was named Female Field Performer of the Week for the fourth time this season, finished the weekend winning the 20-lb weight throw with a toss of 64 feet, 3 ¾ inches (19.60m) at the Bison Open and Multi. She also placed second in the shot put, throwing for a distance of 46-2 (14.07m), breaking a seven-year-old record and posting an ECAC qualifying mark. At the Penn State National Invitational, Grap posted a second-place finish after launching a length of 65-7 ½ (20.00m), which was a new school record and an NCAA provisional mark.
Hoffman was named the Male Field Performer of the Week for the second consecutive time this season. He has won his last four 35-lb weight throwing events including a toss of 64-11 ¼ (19.79m) at the Bison Open and Multi, which was a new school record and NCAA provisional mark. He also won the weight throw at the Penn State National Invitational with a distance of 61-1 ½ (18.63m).
After qualifying for her third ECAC Championships event, Sawko was named the Female Track Performer of the Week, placing seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 10.77 seconds. The senior has also qualified for the 1,000 and the one-mile.
Boyle earned his second straight Male Track Performer of the Week after setting a new school record in the 400 with a time of 47.59 at the Penn State National Invitational, making him an IC4A qualifier. He was also part of the team that finished first in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:15.96, which was also a IC4A qualifying mark.
For the first time this season, Janda was named Female Rookie of the Week after winning the 500 at the Bison Open and Multi with a time of 1:19.46.
The Bucknell indoor track and field teams will travel to Akron, Ohio, on Saturday, Feb. 3, to compete in the Akron Open. The meet will begin at 10:30 a.m.
