Bucknell Women's Tennis Wraps Up Day Two of Competition at the Cornell Winter Classic

Ithaca, N.Y. - The Bucknell women's tennis squad finished day two of tournament play at the Cornell Winter Classic recording five victories led by junior Caitlin Baffa (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills), who went 2-1 in Flight D singles play.
Baffa took down Jen Kucko of Binghamton in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, while defeating Columbia's Linnar Goswami in a three-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 4-6, (10-5) in the semifinals. The junior came up short in the championship match to Binghamton's Gayathri Balasundar, 2-6, 1-6. Baffa also teamed with sophomore JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) losing in the first round to Kristin Beehler and Paige Ford of Army 4-8, but bounced back in the back draw quarterfinal to beat Balasundar and Kucko of Binghamton. The pair would lose in the semifinals to Columbia's Allie Cordell and Kim McMenamin, 4-8.
Also in Flight D singles, sophomore Camille Simonetti (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) won a three-set tiebreaker against Temple's Whitney Tillman, 4-6, 6-4, (10-3), but fell to Balasundar in straight sets, 3-6, 1-6.
Freshman Kirstyn Sotak (Beechwood, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) won her quarterfinal back draw matchup to McMenamin in a three-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 4-6, (10-2), in Flight C singles. In the semifinals, Sotak fell to Binghamton's Danyelle Shapiro, 1-6, 2-6.
The Bucknell women's tennis squad will open its dual season on Friday, Feb. 2, in Pittsburgh, Pa. against Pitt. The match is slated to start at 1 p.m.
