Bucknell Indoor Track and Field Teams Split Up this Weekend

LEWISBURG, Pa - On Friday and Saturday, the Bucknell indoor track and field squads will host the two-day Bison Open and Multi in the Gerhard Fieldhouse as well as compete in the high-caliber Penn State National Invitational meet in University Park, Pa. The Bison Open and Multi will have 17 teams in attendance.
The Orange and Blue has had a number of athletes qualify for the ECAC and IC4A Championships. On the track, senior Catherine Trentacoste (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) qualified for the 55-meter dash with a time of 8.25 seconds at the Bucknell Heptagonal last Saturday. Fellow senior Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) has moved her way into two events. She has qualified for the 1,000 and the one-mile run with times of 2:56.69 and 5:00.81, respectively.
Sophomore Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) headlines the list of men's runners and has earned spots in the 400 and 500. Boyle ran a time of 48.35 in the 400, while crossing the line with a time of 1:03.76, in the 500. Junior Brian Mooney (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) posted a time of 1:54.62 in the 800 at the Bison Opener, while senior Matt Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) notched a time of 4:12.49 at the Bucknell Heptagonal in the mile to qualify them both for the IC4A Championships. The quartet of Forys, senior Mark Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) and freshmen Sean Coyne (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) and Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Governor Dummer Academy) qualified for the distance medley relay with a time of 10:10.73 at the Gulden Relays.
In the field, senior Marjorie Grap (Van Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) leads the women in the throwing events after launching a distance of 65 feet, 1 ¼ inches (19.84m) in the 20-lb weight throw, while also throwing for a length of 45-3 (13.79m) at the Gulden Relays to qualify her for both events. Her distance in the weight throw has also made her an NCAA provisional qualifier. Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) earned a place in the ECAC championships after clearing a height of 12-3 ½ in the pole vault at the Bison Opener.
Senior Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) tossed a distance of 61-1 ½ (18.63m) at the Bucknell Heptagonal to qualify for the IC4A championships. Freshman Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) has qualified for both the triple jump and the long jump with lengths of 48-10 ¾ (14.90m) and 23-11 ½ (7.30m), respectively.
Looking to make an impact this weekend will be freshman Kalle James-Wintjen (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg), who won her first 200 last weekend at the Bucknell Heptagonal. She should compete hard in the 60 and 200 events. Senior Ann Doty (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) will lead the women in the jumping events, while seniors Jenny Stevens (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing) and Leanna Nastase (Beaverdale, Pa./Forest Hills), along with juniors Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) will compete strong in the distance events.
On the men's side, junior David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) and freshman Jason Inzana (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) will compete in the pole vault. Forys, Caroleo and junior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Acad.) will look to perform well in the distance events, while freshman Sean Coyne (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) and senior Eric Guja (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) will lead the sprint events.
The Bison Open and Multi will start at 4 p.m. on Friday with the women's 60 hurdles, while the Penn State National Invitational will begin at 1:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Bison Open and Multi is slated to begin at 10 a.m. with the long jump, weight throw and high jump competitions, while the Penn State National Invitational will start at 9 a.m.
