Bucknell Cross Country Competes At Brooks Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Bucknell cross country squads competed in the 33rd annual Brooks Paul Short Run on Friday afternoon at Lehigh on the Goodman campus. The event consisted of over 220 collegiate and high school teams. The women's cross country team finished eighth out of 35 squads with a total of 271 points in a six-kilometer run, while the men notched a ninth-place finish out of 42 teams in a eight-kilometer run with 323 points.
The Bison women were led by senior Leanna Nastase (Beaverdale, Pa/Forest Hills), who finished 19th out of 237 runners with a time of 21 minutes, 22 seconds. Senior Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) placed 41st with a time of 21:43, while sophomore Gillian Nordquist (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkstown) ran a time of 22:18, which was good for 61st. Sophomore Nicole Falcaro (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) and junior Christine Totten (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) finished 71st and 79th, with times of 22:26 and 22:34, respectively. The women ran against No. 13 Princeton, No. 9 Wisconsin, and No. 18 Tennessee, who placed in the top three, respectively. Villanova, Yale, Penn, and Appalachian State all finished before Bucknell in the contest, while Davidson and Coastal Carolina wrapped up the top ten in the competition.
Senior Matt Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) and junior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./ Montgomery Academy) led the Bison to a ninth-place finish. Forys finished 15th out of 276 runners with a time of 24:43 while Campbell broke the plan at 24:48, which was good for a 16th-place finish. Juniors Andrew Corral (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) and Michael Gibney (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River) finished the event 73rd and 85th with times of 25:30 and 25:39, respectively. Sophomore Joe Foley (Howelll, Mich./Flint Powers Catholic) wrapped up the Bucknell top five with a 134th finish with a time of 26:09. Villanova, Pittsburgh, Columbia, SUNY Cortland, Virginia Intermont, Penn, Coastal Carolina, No. 30 Princeton, Bucknell and Wayne State finished the top ten, respectively, in the competition.
The Orange and Blue will be back in action at the Lafayette Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 14, in Easton, Pa.
