LEWISBURG, Pa. - Kinney Natatorium will once again be the site of numerous games involving ranked teams this weekend when the No. 17 Bucknell men's water polo team welcomes George Washington, Johns Hopkins, No. 10 Navy and No. 14 Princeton to Lewisburg for a handful of CWPA Southern Division league games this weekend.
The Bison will battle Princeton Friday night at 8 p.m. to kick off the two days of action. That contest will be broadcast live on WVBU 90.5 in Lewisburg as well as on the internet through www.SportsJuice.com. Bucknell will have revenge on its mind as the Bison dropped a 12-4 decision to the Tigers on Sunday at the ECAC Championship. Princeton has held the edge in the series recently, owning a 20-1 advantage since late in the 1998 campaign. However, that one victory for Bucknell came in a league contest against the Tigers at Kinney Natatorium last October.
In addition to Friday's contest, Bucknell will take on George Washington and Navy on Saturday. The game with the Colonials will take place at 2 p.m., while the contest with the Mids will conclude the weekend and is slated for 8 p.m. In addition to those two games, both Princeton and Navy will face Johns Hopkins Saturday. George Washington and Johns Hopkins are among the teams also receiving votes in the latest CWPA Top 20 Poll.
After opening the season 5-1, Bucknell has dropped three of its last four games to stand at 6-4 overall. All four of those losses have come to ranked foes.
Veterans Kyle Roslyn (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter), Mark Masterson (Kihei, Hawaii/Marin) and Jason Rechel (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) have led the Bison offensive attack this season. Roslyn is second on the team in goals (20) and assists (11), but paces the squad in points. Masterson, who tallied his 100th career point earlier in the week against Princeton, has 23 goals to top the team in that category. He also has seven assists and a total of 30 points. Just one point behind him is Rechel, who has a team-high 14 assists to go along with 15 goals. He has also won 19 of 34 sprints.
Luke Belenky (Kensington, Md./German School) has started every game in goal for the Bison. The junior has 65 saves and has played all but 24 minutes this season. He is just three saves shy of the century mark for his career.
Following this weekend's important league games, Bucknell will travel to California for the Claremont Convergence next weekend. While in California, the Bison will also take on UC Davis and Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif.
